  1. This post was like a little vacation for me as I stopped to experience the sounds in my mind. But yes, the sound of silence is the best of all because everything that matters seems to reside there.

    • Jean, how true, we all forget these sounds and need a ‘vacation’ from the contemporary babble. Thing is once you start listening for these sounds you start hearing them more prominently plus lots of new ones. If you do hear any to add then please do so. I loved to hear them!

Chania, you have a new one but, naughty, naughty, you didn’t tell! Feel free to improve the post by inserting any I forgot, which was…….???
In the meantime I’m off to my well of inspiration where the water is as fresh as the day the Earth was born…..or, more precisely to have a cup of tea and a biccie and to reflect on all I feel about life. So no great secret to the posts, just my own view of this gift called life so long as it’s a simple view. You comments do uplift me and the encouragement so very welcomed. My genuine thanks.

With smiles unlimited to you both xxx

  2. John, you have just got to stop! Every time I land over here, the new post is better than last! What kind of water are you drinking?! :D

Loved this post (of course). It massaged my ears just reading it (if that’s possible in this mixed metaphor). One sound that’s not on here, though …. ? ;)

Hope all is well for you today.

  3. Hi John,

Followed you here from Less Ordinary Living.

Love your list of welcoming sounds. I love the birds singing too! My yard is filled with happy birds. Just the other day I thought, “how happy the birds always seem.”

We need some silent “rooms,” where you just go in there and listen to yourself for a change.

    Much thanks!
    Giulietta, always musing

  4. Birds singing, waterfalls, ocean waves…. you have just made my ears very happy. Ahhhh :)

  5. ayo

    hi john,
    how are you?
i would have to agree with chania on this lol!!!
the sound of waves and baby laughing do it for me. no matter how stressful the day has been; lifting up my 9th month old daughter in the air and watching her smile, giggle and drool all over just creates a good feeling.
    thanks for sharing this.
enjoy the rest of the day

  6. Hey John,

I have to admit. I’ve always hated sound. I’m a very lite sleeper, one small sound and I’m kicking butt n’ taking names. I also have the worst concentration, if I hear anything other than the sound of my keyboard typing, I’m bustin’ down doors with my pistol *peo pow peo*

Alright, that’s what I would have told you two years ago… I essentially figured that having a mentality such as that, was going to make it very hard for my future girlfriend and family to live with me(which she does now).

Anyway, good post! I now enjoy about half of the things on that list ;-)

    Be safe,

    –Parker

    • Parker, sounds like a new sound diet needed. That and a little bit of love that might be music to your ears. Good luck to you both.

Ayo, not only is a child a delight to hear but also to see and be with. May you enjoy your daughter who now always has your heart forever.

Aileen, even reading your words when you describe these wonderful things is relaxing in itself. May all of your body, not just your ears, smile all over!

Giulietta, really great to re-meet on here. Silent rooms is a sensible idea. Imagine being able to go into a shop on the high street and experience a room of serenity. A personal one you can use for half an hour in silence or selected music or nature sounds? Wow, that sounds amazing doesn’t it? When will it happen I wonder????
