Why You Too Are A Superhero
Picture this:
A tanker has overturned. Petrol seeps out and a fire starts. Nearby a young family are trapped in their car. Who can help?
Suddenly, out of the blue, appears the familiar figure of Superhero Superman. Or Batman. Or even Wonder Woman, Catwoman, Spiderman or….you!
Okay, while the scenario is pretty unlikely for you to be anywhere near involved, you are still an actual living, breathing Superhero.
And I’m going to show you why!
Superheroes have super powers like the raw strength of The Hulk or the telepathy of Jean Grey. Powers of shapeshifting, invisibility, X-Ray vision and immortality. That give them extreme abilities, supernatural abilities and miraculous life saving abilities beyond recognised human traits.
And so do you!
Most superheroes were once everyday people either having a superpower bestowed on them through some unusual circumstance, or were born with it and tried to live normally but couldn’t surpress their innate mastery. Suddenly, within them a force was unleashed. A whirlwind of energy becoming real. A magical highpowered capability released. Their true nature showing through. Like you and yours.
The hero in you
Heroes are revered. Worshipped where they go. When others witness what abilities they possess. Where their mere presence comforts those around them or reassures that all will be well. That everyone will be safe and sound in the end. When they show up, enter a room or scene, talk, smile and simply just be there.
They are respected, loved, valued, and needed. By people who sometimes are so in awe of all they do and can accomplish that they simply become speechless. Find it impossible to say the words of admiration and gratitude when they are around. Or don’t appear to notice how much they contribute. How much difference they make to the lives around them. Never say, “Thank You”, or “Thank God for you!”.
That superhero is YOU and those people the ones that love you and adore you
Superheroes go about their business without recognition. Hidden behind masks and costumes they save the day whilst remaining anonymous, faceless and unknown. Incognito individuals. Heroes like you can feel the same. That your efforts for your family and those who you love so very deeply goes unnoticed or unappreciated. That you are some nameless non-entity whose only role is to serve others. Make their lives better at the expense of yours. Not so.
You are a true superhero in their lives. The every single day hero
Every single day others….
- Look up to you and all you are
- Adore you, love you, are attracted to you and idolise you
- Light up when you enter the room
- Smile when they think of you
- Wait to see you, long to see, and look to see you
- Worship you for being in their life
- Could not do without you, could not survive if you weren’t there
- Have a great life because you are in theirs
You are a superhero. No other way to put it. Every day, every where you go and in everything you do someone is thinking about you, loving you, dying to be around you, writing or talking about you, dreaming of you and being amazed that you came along. Like when superheroes do.
They might find it hard to say, uncomfortable to show or difficult to express because they are so in awe of who you are. Your loving partnership and parenthood. Your family ethic. Your spirit, warm character, support of others, determination, integrity, and stature. How you take people’s blues away. A dear friend. And those lovely eyes, caring hands and that huge, wonderful, beautiful beating heart. That’s there, always there for them. For others. And for the world.
But theirs is there too. Always there. Like you. The Superhero. Our Superhero. Thank you for you. We love you!
So who is your Superhero? What makes them that way? Let me know by leaving a comment. It would be super to hear from you.

What a beautiful post.
My mum is my superhero. She looks after all the family, which is large and spread out, she cooks, cleans, works in a caring profession and still find the time to pop over with a box of chocolates or bunch of grapes if she knows I need a chat. And she always knows – maybe that is just one of the superhero powers?!
Hi there Kate, welcome to my simple little space. I SOOO agree. Mums should just be called Supermum’s and nothing else. The amazing energy they have to love, nurture, feed, clothe, wash, look after and inspire children no Superhero could match. They have superduper powers. And, of course, they know everything including what you are thinking. They have it all!
I am quickly becoming addicted to the inspiration you offer here
Adena thank you. Whilst I don’t recommend any addictive practices, in this case I will gladly make an exception.
Great post! We all need to look for and live up to our capability to be super heroes.
Hi Erin, welcome to Real Simple People. You speak real sensible words – we are capable super heroes who just need to realise this power. Blessings.
hello john,
how are you?
just wanted to say you were a real super hero to the people on the streets. i watched a clip of you on the one show and you could see people drawn to your warmth.
enjoy the rest of the day
Hi Ayo, good day friend. Ah, you’ve found my alter ego Mr Hugger Man. I give people energy and confidence by hugging them. Actually anyone can do that so maybe I’m out of a job if everyone hugged more often? Anyway I am sending you a cyberhug in thanks; make sure you hug for happiness all the time in return.
What a great post reminding us all that we have something great inside to give back to this world. There IS a hero inside all of us. Now we just need to get out there and share it with the world.
We are all heroes of the super kind when we realise the impact we have everyday on so many people. Then we can fly as high as Superman or Batwoman or simply just be ourselves and change the world!
